Garvin and
Roberto (2005), in their article Change
through Persuasion suggest strategies that leaders could use to persuade
their employees to embrace and execute needed change. Discuss the four steps of
their persuasion campaign.
The leader should communicate the seriousness of the problem within the organization and the fate of the organization and the employees if change of system, structure, culture, vision, procedures. Next the leader should involve the employees in proposal of the change plan and he should put frame the change plan in such a way that it will be easily understandable by the employees during implementation. In implementing the change plan since there are changes that can affect some employees (downsizing, structuring), encouraging and convincing the remaining employees that the change is for the future good of the organization and scarification is a must. Finally the leader should take care of the backsliding as there are some dysfunction routines which hinder the employee to practice belief, values and cultures in the new system. He should encourage the employees to practice the new system by themselves.
