Discussion Question 2.3 Competing Commitments

According to Kegan and Laskow, there are always unacknowledged accompanying and an inner contradictions that protect people from significant changes that they are genuinely striving for; Competing Commitments. Discuss with examples about the management of these competing commitments in a change management.

  1. first, it is better i think to underscore that competing commitments arise from bigger life assumptions that are associated with the very fabric of human existence. these assumptions affect human behavior in great amount due to that life has its own way that is used to elongate its existence. life's purpose is to exist.
then as a manager, to influence this bigger assumption, we need to unearth the assumptions first and we need to some how try to influence by creating falacies and weakening their arguments to create doubt on their stance. in line with this, we need to be the biographers of the assumptions on issues like when, how and why this assuption was created.this will help us to associate the assumptinsa with the specific circumstances.after that we need to try influence them.at last a test must be made on both the result of the test and the test itself so that we can get lesson out of it.
but this is really a tough process, it is not some thing you do it all at once, some thing you cure it like disease...because we are dealing with human behavior and it requires longer time span and thorough effort. thank you very much doctor!
